My first year as a Move it or Lose it instructor

A year ago I qualified as a Move it or Lose it instructor and what an incredible journey I’ve had.

I was working as a health care assistant in a GP practice when I was looking for classes for my patients and here I am today leading them.

I had absolutely no experience as a fitness instructor; I didn’t even attend fitness classes when I started my training.

I passed my training and set up 3 classes, which I have to say was a little scary to say the least. But with my lovely clients supporting me and bringing along their friends my classes grew. I have watched friendships blossom, confidence build and mobility increase like I never would have dreamed. We’ve all shared highs and lows in class as it becomes like a family us all sharing parts of our lives in-between a routine or having a quick water break. To hear the laughter, chattering before class or hear new friends making arrangements to meet up brings a smile to my face every day.

Four months after qualifying, I left my other job to focus on my work as an instructor. I went on to run 10 classes a week, 135 people who are moving along with me. Clients tell me what a difference the class is making to them both physically and mentally and how good they feel from coming. I see the work we do as preventative medicine, if I can stop a few falls, help people from feeling isolated or make people feel happier then it’s a job well done.
