Become a Move it or Lose it Instructor
If you are searching for jobs for older people, jobs for 60 year olds, jobs for sixty year olds or jobs for over 55 year olds UK, you may want something more than “just a job”.
- You may want flexible work.
- You may want to stay active.
- You may want to use your life experience in a meaningful way.
- You may also want a role that helps others, fits around your lifestyle and gives you a real sense of purpose.
That is exactly why many people train to become Move it or Lose it instructors.
Move it or Lose it helps older adults improve their strength, balance, flexibility, mobility and confidence through fun, friendly exercise classes. Our instructors teach exercises that can be done seated or standing, so classes feel welcoming, inclusive and enjoyable.
This is not an older gym in the traditional sense. It is not about intimidating equipment, mirrors or competition. It is about helping people move more, feel better and stay independent for longer.
Why active ageing is a growing opportunity
The UK population is ageing, and more older adults want ways to stay strong, social and independent. Many people search for gyms for older people, gym for older adults, exercise for old people, personal trainer for older people or resistance training for older adults because they know movement matters.
But many older adults do not want a standard gym environment. They want a friendly class where they feel understood. They want an instructor who can adapt exercises, build confidence and make movement feel safe and enjoyable.
That is where Move it or Lose it instructors make such a difference.
Our instructors reach thousands of older adults every week through community classes across the UK. They help people improve everyday movements such as getting out of a chair, climbing stairs, carrying shopping, staying steady on their feet and feeling more confident in daily life.
Older adults come to classes with a wide range of fitness levels, confidence levels and long term health conditions, so they need instructors who understand how to adapt movement safely.
A Move it or Lose it class can support health and wellbeing in many ways, from helping people build strength, improve balance, to supporting mobility, confidence, bone density and overall quality of life.
This is why FABS training appeals to career changers who want more than a job they can fit around family life. It offers better work life balance and a chance to make a real difference to people’s lives, day to day.
A career change that values your life experience
You do not need to come from a traditional fitness background to train with us.
Our instructors include teachers, nurses, carers, support workers, charity staff, parents returning to work, personal trainers, group exercise instructors and people looking for a fresh start in their 40s, 50s and 60s.
If you have searched for career for old people, employment for 60 year olds, employment for older women or jobs for older women, you may already know that many roles do not value the skills you have built over a lifetime.
Move it or Lose it does.
Communication, empathy, organisation, patience, humour and confidence with people all matter. These skills help you become the kind of instructor older adults trust and enjoy seeing each week.
What is FABS Training?
FABS stands for Flexibility, Aerobics, Balance and Strength.
The FABS Training Programme is Move it or Lose it’s flagship instructor training programme. It was developed in partnership with the Centre for Healthy Ageing Research at the University of Birmingham and is built around national guidance for older adults.
You learn how to deliver safe, effective and enjoyable exercise for older adults in community, leisure, care and one-to-one settings.
The training includes guided eLearning, two practical training days, coursework and practical assessment. You learn how to teach seated and standing exercises, adapt movements for different abilities, correct technique, build confidence and create fun routines that people want to come back to.
This is much more than “training old” exercises from a list. It is professional training in active ageing, designed to help you understand the person in front of you and support them safely.
Can I earn money as a Move it or Lose it instructor?
Yes. You are self-employed, so you choose when you work, where you work and how many classes you run.
Some instructors start with one or two classes a week. Others build a full timetable. Many classes run during the day, often between 9.30am and 3pm, which can suit people looking for family-friendly work, semi-retirement income or a more flexible lifestyle.
Start-up costs are usually low compared with many businesses. You may need venue hire, insurance, music licences, a music player and small portable equipment such as resistance bands and balls.
After qualifying, you can also apply to become a licensed Move it or Lose it instructor. The optional licence gives you access to the trusted Move it or Lose it brand, class listings on our website, marketing support, monthly tutorials, resources, CPD discounts and a supportive instructor community.
