Looking for a flexible, rewarding role in
your 50s or beyond?
If you’re looking for a new challenge, a sense of purpose, or a flexible way to stay active and earn an income, becoming a Move it or Lose it instructor could be the perfect next step.
What they all have in common is a passion for helping others and a desire to stay active themselves.
We specialise in training people – many with no previous fitness experience – to deliver safe, effective and enjoyable exercise classes for older adults in their local community. Learn how to motivate and empower your clients and promote positive behaviour change so they want to keep coming back, week after week.
How to become a fitness instructor for older adults
The training that sets you up for success
Our FABS Training Programme is specifically designed for working with older adults and focuses on what really matters – helping people stay strong, steady and independent.
You’ll learn how to deliver safe, effective and enjoyable classes that combine flexibility, aerobic fitness, balance and strength – all tailored to real people. Most importantly, you’ll learn how to create classes people love coming back to.
A role that fits around your life
As a self-employed instructor, you have the freedom to choose when and where you work. Whether you’d like to run just a couple of classes a week or gradually build up a fuller timetable, you’re in control. There’s no pressure to do more than feels right for you.
This role fits beautifully around caring responsibilities, part-time work or semi-retirement and other interests and hobbies. Classes typically run during the day, meaning you can keep your evenings and weekends free if you choose.
It’s a way to stay active, connected and purposeful – without committing to rigid hours or a traditional full-time role. And because you’re running your own classes, you also have the flexibility to shape your timetable around your lifestyle – not the other way around.
Train with confidence
When you train with Move it or Lose it, you’re learning from one of the UK’s leading specialists in exercise for older adults.
Our FABS Training Programme has been developed in collaboration with scientists and experts in ageing research, ensuring everything you learn is safe, effective and grounded in the latest evidence.
This is a proven programme, delivered by a trusted brand with a strong national presence and a track record of helping thousands of older adults stay active, independent and socially connected.
You’re supported every step of the way
Starting something new can feel like a big step – especially if it’s been a while since you’ve done any formal training or you’re moving into something completely different. But you won’t be doing it alone.
From your very first enquiry through to running your first class (and beyond), we’re here to support you every step of the way. Our training is designed to build your confidence gradually, with a clear, structured pathway that takes you from learning the basics to delivering full classes in a safe and supportive environment.
