We have a really exciting opportunity for 8 people to join our team and help us transform the way we age in the West Midlands.
Sport England, National Lottery and EMDUK are supporting Move it or Lose it to train and support 8 people to deliver our nationally endorsed FABS exercise programme for people with long-term health conditions (LTHC) in their local community.
FABS is designed to give you all the knowledge and skills you need to be a specialist instructor for older adults. The FABS Exercise Programme combines four essential components for health and wellbeing as recommended by the Chief Medical Officer’s and N.I.C.E. guidelines for the over 60s – Flexibility, Aerobic, Balance and Strength – we call it FABS.
Train to teach both chair-based and standing exercises so you can work in community, care and gym settings. Our aim is to ensure older people across the UK can join a local class to help them stay active and independent. We’ve already got thousands of people moving more and having fun and now we need more instructors to fulfil the demand. As the exercises can be adapted to suit a wide range of abilities, the FABS Training Programme gives you both the scope and choice to teach chair-based exercise sessions in care or NHS settings through to standing active community classes for the over 60s.
Our high quality endorsed training has been developed with experts in ageing research. The FABS Training Programme has been developed by Move it or Lose it in collaboration with scientists and experts in ageing research.* With our blended approach of online learning and two day face-to-face practical training, we bring together the best of academic research with practical application to help you be at the forefront of the fitness industry.
You can join our team and enjoy friendly, ongoing support to help more people live active, healthier, happier lives. “98% of trainees found the eLearning convenient and good value for money” Whether you’re an existing fitness professional or completely new to exercise training, we support you every step of the way. Along with the eLearning you’ll watch video tutorials to ensure you are familiar with the exercise programme and feel confident even before you attend the two-day practical training. Here you will learn how to link the exercises and put them to music to create fun-filled routines. Our highly trained and friendly Trainers will put you at ease with practical assessments done in informal group settings. This ensures you are safe and competent to deliver exercise classes for older people.
We are looking for the right people to join us. You can be any age (from 18+) and we welcome mature applicants as many of our instructors are in their 40s and 50s.
If you are selected, you would sign up to do our FABS training programme which involves between 20 and 32 hours of eLearning before you attend two days of practical training. If you are already a fitness professional with a level 2 qualification or above, you can do our FABS Fast Track Training (20 guided learning hours). If you have no fitness qualification, you will complete the full FABS programme (32 guided learning hours).
Once you have passed, you will be asked to join our licensed network of highly esteemed instructors. This gives you access to all our resources, marketing materials, video tutorials, discounted equipment, ongoing support and private Facebook group.
We will support you to set up at least three classes a week in your local community and ask you to commit to running these classes for at least 12 weeks. You will be asked to keep a register of attendees and collect information to evaluate the impact of your classes.
