Move it or Lose it! was founded in 2010 by award-winning exercise instructor, Julie Robinson, who has dedicated her career to motivating thousands of people to keep active in later life. Her company has now grown nationally with network of instructors delivering exercise classes to thousands of older people every week. Julie and her team have also developed a range of fitness products including award-winning DVDs, resistance bands and everything else you need to keep fit at home.

Move it or Lose it are on a mission to transform the health and wellbeing of our nation’s older adults. With the support of our advisory board, we’re at the forefront of active ageing, helping to combat loneliness, and reducing social isolation. Together we’re committed to helping future generations to move more, sit less, and age well!

Julie Robinson

Julie is an award-winning entrepreneur, fitness expert and published author. Julie’s skillset is bringing like-minded people together to bring about positive change whether that’s a network of instructors helping others to improve their health and wellbeing, or volunteers raising over £1million for a breast cancer research charity. Julie’s knowledge and passion for healthy ageing has led to collaborations with the NHS, the Academic Health Science Network, UK Active, Royal Voluntary Service and University of Birmingham’s Centre for Healthy Ageing.

Beth Rees

Beth has played a pivotal role in creating the business’s growth and positive impact. She’s a driving force behind streamlining processes and implementing efficient workflows to optimise company productivity and performance.

Collaborating closely with Julie, Beth steers the development of forward-thinking operational strategies. With an unwavering focus on meeting company objectives and amplifying impact, she propels the business toward new horizons.

Chief Knowledge Office at Move it or Lose it – Professor Sir Muir Gray

Professor Sir Muir Gray CBE, FRCPSGlas, FCLIP is an Honorary Clinical Researcher and has worked for the NHS since 1972. Among many other highly esteemed positions, he founded the National Library for Health and was the first person to hold the post of Chief Knowledge Officer of the NHS (England).

He is internationally renowned for his expertise and passion for improving health and well-being.

Professor Janet Lord CBE

Janet Lord is Professor of Immune Cell Biology and director of the Institute for Inflammation and Ageing at Birmingham University Medical School and is also director of the MRC-Arthritis Research UK Centre for Musculoskeletal Ageing Research.

Karen Hill

Karen is a retired member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy. Her 35+ year career with the NHS was primarily in the treatment and rehabilitation of older people, culminating as an Advanced Clinical Specialist in Falls Prevention and Management.

She trained as a Move it or Lose it instructor in 2018, sharing an affinity with the mission of Move it or Lose it to improve the fitness of older people. She has professional experience of the difference that keeping active can make, by helping to reduce the risk of admission to hospital and boosting quality of life. She now enjoys running several classes a week in villages around York and helping signpost other instructors to relevant information from physiotherapy and NHS resources.
